Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the S. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 6257 is a cleaning of a robbing trench labeled context 5510 which is located at southwestern edge of courtyard of Byzantine house. This cleaning is being undertaken to confirm that the lowest level of the robbing trench has been reached before removal of surfaces of surfaces to the east which were cut by 5510. The excavators of 5510 believed they had reached bottom when the soil changed to a more compact surface.
Soon after the cleaning began it was determined that the bottom had been reached during the 2008 excavations. We completed the cleaning, though, because the surface of the soil was very compacted from wheelbarrow and foot traffic and a year of silting. Surface revealed by cleaning context 6257 is a compact earth surface likely analogous to types being revealed in the area immediately east of the robbing trench.
