Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark pinkish black. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We opened 6291 when we noticed that the inclusions were now different from those in the overlying context, 6286. 6291 includes many more pebbles and boulders than did 6286, and significantly more and larger bones, probably belonging to large mammals. We also began to encounter more glazed fineware than before.
Also included was the corner of a worked block with a circular depression, perhaps part of a threshold block.
7.05.09: Excavation of the well was continued on 7.05.09. The soil became mucher greyer, drier, and more brittle, so we closed context 6291 and opened a new one, 6297. The soil change was noticed in the morning after the workmen had already removed six buckets of soil prior to the arrival of the trench supervisors, so 6291 might have been overdug.
