Description:   The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Context 6298 is a small fill directly north of staircase 6296 and west of wall 5783 in southern part of courtyard of Byzantine house. Associated cut is 6299, and this context cuts a large red fill, which covers much of the area to the west and south. Context 6298 being excavated before tackling the red fill (6276) for which excavation mistakenly began early. May represent same type of dumped fill although it is difficult to explain why it would be cut into another surface.
Soil is dark reddish brown clayey silt with 20% inclusions (ceramics, bone, stones). Removal of context 6298 revealed more of the red fill (6276).
Context 6298 may relate to 2008 context 5764, although that context does not have associated cut.
