Description:   The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is very loose. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This is a cleaning context for the bothros excavated in the 1960s. We are doing this cleaning to better understand this area and also to avoid contamination as we bring the other surfaces lower. There is a lot of loose soil and some vegetation that had accumulated at the bottom of this bothros and removing the build up will help to more clearly define this area. A lot of the soil accumulation may have come from the sides of the bothros eroding and also from soil falling into it from the excavations of contexts at higher levels. Some of the soil from this cleaning is being moved over to the pithos cut directly to the east (also excavated in the 1960s see ND 229 p 180) The sides of the bothros are also being heavily cleaned to better define the limits of the bothros pit. On the southwest side, the cleaning revealed the red "stereo" but this was not revealed by cleaning on the northwest side and the bottom so have opened context 6352 to excavate this fill.
