| Description: | The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt. | |
| Notes: | Context 6370 is a fill within cut 6362 located in western part of courtyard of Byzantine house. Very similar in soil composition to 6367, but it appears to be slightly redder and has less ashy particles. Decision made to change contexts at this time. Context 6370 is one of several fills within cut 6362 which itself disturbed the cut for robbing trench 6349 (cut 6350). Soil is dark reddish brown clayey silt with approximately 50% inclusions (tile, stone). As excavation of 6370 continued, suspicions arose that we may be dealing with a well. The would mean that context 6370 may represent a dumped fill in this possible well which could still turn out to be a bothros. A bothros now seems like the more accurate interpretation. Fill context 6367 had smaller inclusions than 6370 which could suggest larger material purposefully dumped at lower level. | |
