Description:   The soil color is light greyish grey. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is mixed- see description.
Notes:   After Panos excavated context 6398, he noticed a number of different contexts revealed, including two ash pits- this is the western most one. Panos removed about 3 l of fill from this context, nearly 100% ash. The context was very small and yielded only a few pieces of pottery. The excavation of this ash pit revealed some tiles, forming a small hearth-like shape. The other ashpit, however, did not reveal these tiles. The two ashpits are only divided by a thin strip of soil (ca. 20cm). Our next move is to excavate this strip of soil and the surrounding area to better understand what is going on with these two ashpits and the surface they cut. Alicia and Panos believe that perhas the two ashpits are related and the strip of soil in between was used as a repair to the floor surface.
