Notes: | This levelling course was constructedin order to bring threshold block 10085 to an appropriate height so that it could be used together with wall 10078. The threshold block itself has a small cutting to accommodate a door jamb; ostensibly, the large orthostate block directly to the north also was cut for this purpose, but appears to be a component of a wall that was founded earlier (unfortunately, this idea is formed only on th ebasis of the foundations as they stand, and not on the basis of their foundation trenches, which are probably of a very narrow construction and filled entirely with foundation stones). A crumbled section of the levelling course (tumble would have occurred westward) may be due to a lack of support for this section following the excavations of several large pits in this room in the 1960s; the wall section appears to have been undermined, and to have tumbled. Excavation of this context revealed the top of the cobble foundations supporting the levelling course. | |
