Description:   Top slope of the context is sharp down to the W. The soil color is light pinkish grey. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   6617 is opened as a strip of reddish soil along the western side of the eastern pier foundation cut (6148). It is covering lighter grey soil which extends west. This deposit is cut in the east by the pier cut, at the south by the large circular cut (6224) and covered on the west by 6605. It seems to be the case that the fills below the pebble floor are uneven, sloping from east to west. They may apear that way with the low part in the middle of the immediate area, because of the disturbances in the floor surface at this spot.
In the northm 6617 is cut by the 1960s excavaton. The red soil of 6617 was removed along with some of the fill below and the context was closed.
