| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | We dug this context in an effort to establish the stratigraphy in the east half of the room. We had been struggling with whether cut 6224, which truncated the NE 'pebble floor' baulk, continued further/deeper. 6618 was an oval-shaped area at the SE corner of the 'pier robbing trench.' It was a grey area of soil distinct from the red soil to the immediate west. We removed it so as to determine its relationship to cut 6224. Removal of the layer did not help our understanding of the stratigraphy, so after digging the context (1.10m x 0.80m) about 14 cm down, we closed 6618 and moved to the SW corner of the room. | |
