Description:   The soil color is light pinkish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating this context to further explore the line of the putative robbing cut that we have observed in the ection of the deep bothros cuts 6353 and 6380. Excavating in the southwestern corner, on the 6353 southeastern side of where the line of the cut has appeared so far, we are trying to test whether or not the cut seems to corner and run together with robbing trench 6381 or not.
The findings were that we found no eastward continuation of the previous putative robbing trench line, and that we instead identified soft fill ringing pit cut 6380. The line of this fill has been visible for some time and may be unexcavated fill or slump related to the pit's construction and subsequent filling events, along with wear and tear over time as an exposed scarp. In addition to the fill ringing the northern and eastern edges of the cut, there was another soft fill concentrated specifically in the southwestern corner. Dividing the two different fills was a hard surface that appears identical to the surface exposed by 6613 and 6589.

POST-EXCAVATION NOTE, 15-06-09, S.L.: Contexts 6663 and 6649, at least one of which underlies this context, were found to contain two joining coarse incised ware body fragments of the Frankish period, dating to the mid-13th century. These sherds will stratigraphically change the dates of every context that lies above them by as much as two centuries, of which this context is one. Until it is decided whether there is some other reason that this discrepancy might have occurred (e.g., these contexts need to be situated in a different place on the Harris Matrix), the dates will remain as they have been assigned on the basis of pottery/stratigraphy prior to discovering this discrepancy.
