Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes: | With 6620, we returned to the western side of the room. The context was a roughly square-shaped area at the corners of Wall W54 and 6267/5631. It encompassed the 1960s trench and structure 6422. The soil was very soft and powdery (ashy) with some inclusions - removing it revealed more stones that could be associated with 6422. We also discovered that the stones making up the westward turning jog of 6422 were floating rocks (perhaps spill from the wall?) so we remove them. They were limestone, unworked, subrounded/spherical and tabular. We came down on a clear floor surface after about 10cm, with ashy patches visible within it. When we closed the context, we recognized that it was very square in shape (when including the 60s test trench) and the fill was very soft. At present we are unsure on the interpretation of the context since the pottery has not been analyzed, but we have unofficially hypothesized that 6620 was backfill from Berg's 60s excavations. Next we opened 6622 just to the north, an ashy circular area. See notes for cut 6623.
