Notes:   We are excavating a part of a well in the room NW of the courtyard of the Byzantine house. Previous work was done on this well under sturcture neumber 6493. We had initially decided to leave a martyr around the well and leave it along after removing a great deal of the fill within (6594) both for saftey reasons and to pursue other priorities as the season draws to a close. However, we have not been able to discern context boundaries in this room and we think the martyr may be obscuring them, so we are removing the martyr (6637) and part of ht well to get a better look. We hae removed several courses of the well and reached the level of the surrounding soil, so we have stopped for now. The boundaries of the ontexts in the NE corner of the room are no clearer than before exept that we can now see the foundation trench of the well more clearly, cut in a semicircle around the N side of the well.
