Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   6648 was a fill context located in the northeast part of the room, in the area under the pebbles floor patches. It is cut on the north by the 1961 excavation trench, the post hole cut 6216 and reaches wall 10095. On the west it is cut by pit 6240 and rt 6254. On the south it is cut by the pit 6224 and on the east it is cut by the pier foundation trench 6204 but a small spur reaches east past the south end of wall 10087.
We excavated this context because we thought the fill to the south continued beneath it. The fill seemed trashy like many of the other fills in this room, but with a greater amount of pebbles than what we saw at higher levels. The soil color was pretty mixed with areas of light reddish brown, dark reddish brown, dark brownish red and pinkish brown. We closed the context when we came down on areas of harder soil. The next context excavated was 6652, a patch of greenish clay that was under 6648 and appears to be on top of the reddish pebbley fill around it.
