Description:   The soil color is dark greyish red. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   We are excavating a hearth built into the floor in the room west of the courtyard of the Byz. House. It is a semi-circular packed earth hearth truncted by a larger pit, or possibly by a bothros dug in the 1960s sometimes referred to as the south pit. The hearth may also have been disturbed by the cornerstone of the Ottoman house.
