Notes:   Structure 6738 is an E-W running wall which has been revealed in the room west of the courtyard of the Byzantine house. It was first identified in the scarp of pit 5943 (cut 6326) with more blocks coming to light following the excavation of context 6734. This structure may represent a curb related to an E-W Roman road which would have run a little south of 6738. During the excavation of 6754 an additional block was identified to the east running under wall 6375. This block is half the height of the other blocks which have been revealed. Around this block is a robbing trench (cut 6756, fill 6754) which likely for a second block that would have sat atop the one that was revealed. Structure 6738 would be the northern curb of this road.
It is also clear now that structure 6738 was laid down on sterile soil. Further excavation in this room revealed more information about the structure. A possible foundation trench (fill 6795, cut 6796) was revealed against the north face of 6738. This trench went deeper that the blocks which is odd for a structure. However, it did reveal that the blocks are sitting on different types of soil and may have been leveled individually. The excavation of a N-S robbing trench against the eastern edge of the room also showed that the easternmost revealed block of 6738 was built on an earlier structure. The robbing trench is labeled: cut 6762, fills 6761 and 6808. It also appears that both the sidewalk and road surfaces in this area have been destroyed by later activity since they were not encountered in this room. Another point of interest is that there may have been another block from this curb visible in the western scarp of foundation trench 6359 in the western part of the courtyard.
