Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   6788 is a leveling fill, in which are two large marble blocks first found in context 6774. The context is quasi-rectangular and encompasses a little over half of the center room. The nature of the context as it relates to other contexts is somewhat unclear; unlike the previous contexts, 6774, 6780 and 6786 which contained a large amount of fineware and animal bones, much of this context seems to contain coursewares thus far.
After further excavation we uncovered more large blocks with an opening in the SE corner of the context near wall 10086. The evidence suggests a possible drain, with the large stones functioning as covering slabs. As Thanassis dug around the blocks, they appeared to be staggered, and a further cavity became visible just to the north of them. The blocks appear to have fallen in, as appears from their positioning. As Thanassis dug further around and to the west of the slabs, more cavities emerged. There is no shortage of pottery and small stones.
22-4-10 addendum: After 1.5 days of excavation we have uncovered more large blocks and cavities beneath them that seem to be oriented NW-SE. One of them is an overturned geison block which was found lying on a possible marble paver. SW and adjacent to this we uncovered the top of a possible column drum with an offset empolium or mill stone.
23-4-10 addendum: Further excavation has revealed a collection of architectural blocks in what may be a dump or sewer drain. We have identified one geison block and two column drums/millstones, and also cut half-columns used as cover slabs.
We put this context on hold so that the blocks may be drawn by the architect, and we decided to move to the south to excavate some higher reddish soil (6813).
The context was closed because the first session of the 2010 excavations ended, although subsequent excavation in the same area may reveal more blocks and similar pottery.
