Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. Structure materials: tile (both flat and curved). Material size: max. 0.45 x 0.35; avg. 0.26 x 0.16. Material finish: 0. Material bonding: none (clay underpining possibly acts as bond?).
Notes:   Structure 6807 is an arrangement of tiles laid horizontally on a clay underpining. It was revealed by the excavation of context 6778, a stratum of almost pure ash that lay directly on top of the tiles. The tile structure is possibly related to context 6777, a compact clayey surface that ran up to the edges of the tiles. The tiles themselves show no sign of burning, nor was there much charcoal in the nearby strata (only occassional flecks). The lack of burning is why we are hesitant to call this feature a hearth, although the ash desposit above probably indicates a hearth somewhere nearby. It is possible that there was industrial activity in this area, so it is also possible that this feature is related to that. The tiles ran up to and partially under NS wall 5394 (now demolished), and so the feature pre-dates the wall. It is unclear what the relationship is between the feature and the other walls nearby (e.g. NS wall 6765, EW wall 6764, EW wall 6775).
