Stratum:   20 -30% inclusions: pottery, tile, medium pebbles, several large pieces of iron, pieces of charcoal - making soil darker in places; nail (6 cm).
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the E. The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   6874 was opened when a pile of tiles and plaster was found at the western edge of 6872, with a change of soil color to red. It was decided to close 6872 because the red soil appears to go under the brown/black soil, which extends east to wall 6016, and open 6874 to investigate this brown/black fill. Several large pieces of iron were found near the northern face of the rubble wall (6876) as well as an iron nail. With charcoal in the soil, perhaps this is evidence of a workshop. Two large blocks under the large ashlar block were uncovered, the lowest extending north toward wall 6526. The relationship between these blocks and the other walls in the room will be investigated further once the rubble wall (6876) has been removed.
