Stratum:   Bronze, pottery, tile, glass, bone (very little), coin # 90; 30% top, less than 5% bottom
Description:   The soil color is light pinkish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This is the removal of harder baulk-like protuberances E of wall 746, the N most of which was deemed ''Point Sausage'' by Messrs. Oswald and Connor. Demolition of these baulks is taking place in preparation for cleaning wall 746 for drawing, since the area E of wall 746 has not been excavated since the discovery of the soil running between them over the wall. The section of wall between the baulks (covered by the red, softer soil) is not as solidly built from what we can see of its W face. We are removing the red soil along with the ''baulks'' - it has few if any cultural inclusions. The stone dubbed ''Disappointment Rock'' by Oswald, Esq. and Connor, M.A. now appears even more isolated, but the remains of an E-W wall to its S are now becoming clearer. There is still very little cultural material in the matrix: 4 pieces bone, 26 sherds, after the removal of the ''baulks'', clearing of the E-W wall (851), and removal of perhaps 20+ cm of soil above the portion of 746 that had been obscured. We are wondering whether this might be backfill. Alternatively, natural deposit - slopewash/erosion? At corner where 746 and new wall meet (rough plan in written notes), a small glass rim shard was discovered. One other glass shard discovered as well in fill near exposed column. In same corner, found another 2 pieces of glass and coin # 90 (274.60 E, 1011.63 N, 86.25 H). There is a very clear gap at the corner where a square stone has been removed - perhaps the home of ''Disappointment Rock''? We measure ''Disappointment Rock'' at .46 x .355 x .295m. The gap is ca. .50 x .37m. Found yet another piece of glass there. (Note, we set up at N2 today).
