Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is well sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   After the removal of 908 a hard packed limey soil was revealed. Also present is a great deal of tile, pottery, and rock. The soil is darker than that around. Lime seems ot have been more condensed toward the top of the context. After finding the full base of an octogonal glass, we increased sieving from 50% to 100%. As the workmen shovel the limey-rocky soil to be sieved, Thanasi defines the boudaries to the W with the triangle. The soil is now about level with the foundation of the Western E-W wall called 747.
The lime is present in very large quantity, and it is very compact. 917 is W the lime pit 878 and it was the slope visible on the W side of pit. This big concentration of lime in 917 might be the result of the lime production. In fact, we argue that 917 may be part of the filling of the lime pit.
The lime pit seems to be truncated by wall 747.
This context came on a hard packed soil made of scattered lime, stones and tiles. This bottom surface is different from the fill on which 878 came on. This bottom surface seems to continue under the W side of the lime pit. In fact only the S and E side of the pit are well preserved. Our intent is to investigate the fill W 917 in order to understand the real extent of the lime pit. The excavation of structure 910, the possible oven/furnace, will help us in clarifying the stratigraphy of this area, because its structure seems to be laid against this lime fill.
