Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context was opened in order to explore the fill underneath context 96 within the drain. The soil in the south was compact enough that originally it was thought to be bedrock. It has been revealed to be a very compact light reddish brown soil. The rest of the northern end of the drain is also being dug. Bedrock underlies both the north and south areas. A martyr has been left in the southermost area in order to avoid undercutting the roman bench.
To the north, the large square block underneath the end of the extant wall 38 was found. Directly south of this large block, there is a deeper area where the bedrock was cut to put the block in. This large block is a continuation of the large block at the intersection of wall 38 and 44. The low elevation of this deeper cut is 80.87m. The elevation at the rest of the bedrock to the south is 80.95m. The slope to the deeper area is not vertical, but a slope. The slope is slight. Now that the bedrock has been found, we will change contexts.
