Lot:   Lot 2015-052
Stratum:   10% rounded medium pebbles, 10% angular tabular medium pebbles, 20% cementy chunks similar to context 12
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is light yellowish red. The soil compaction is coarse. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context covers the entire area below the mosaic (10 and 11)and its subfloor (12). It is the layer into which all repairs (ancient and modern ) were cut and appears because of the cementy inclusions, to be closely related to the mosaic subfloor. This context pops off the one below, which is marked with a brownish soil that has some ash in it. There are a few tiles of clay and marble that are lying flat on the surface. Removal of this context reveals both rubble in the southeast corner and many tiles lying flat - some are marble similar to the bench on the south side.
Top elevations: southwest 81.66, NW 81.58, NE 81.58. A shell was found in the soil. There was a notable change near the center of the room in front of the marble bench where we found a North to south wall at the west end and part of a possible floor on its east side. The black ashy soil may just be in pockets as on top of the wall block both soils were found. The top of the East-West cross wall of room VIII was revealed. There is no sign of this East-West wall continuing to the eastern part of the room. More black ashy soil mixed on top of tiles on the East side.
