Description:   The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is firm. It is clayey sand.
Notes:   This context lies along the north side of wall 44. It has an almost linear boundary with 240 and 241, but it is clearly laid up against the second course of stones (beginning 20 cm below the top) after the wall was constructed. It is possible that this soil was originally a packed surface or subfloor for the building because of its compactness. It is also possible that it is one of several leveling fills in the front room of shop VII. Against the wall was found a complete profile of an articulated kantharos (C 2015-8). Fragments of miniature vessels come up also next to the wall. There was some charcoal against the W scarp (maybe to be associated with the ashy fills of 227 and 234. This context revealed to more fills along the wall to be excavated as 243 and 244.
