| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy silt. | |
| Notes: | We open the foundation trench along the East (or NE) wall of the area. It extends from the inside face of the blocks ca. 17 cm outwards. The soil is reddish brown sandy silt, rather loose. There is not much cultural material--a number of sherds and some pieces of glass. Also many small rocks. The context is closed at the North because it seemed to become redder and sandier, and at bottom because there seems to be a surface along the bottom of the foundation trench. While the relative lack of (cultural) material found in the foundation trench is consistent with the relative scarcity of material in the foundation trenches of shops 6 and 7 (excavted in 2015), another factor to consider here is that that this area (and by extension the foundation trenches) was excavted by Broneer (see context 295 notes re: photos of Broneer's probable excavation in this area). | |
