Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the N. The soil color is very dark brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is well sorted. It is sandy clay.
Notes:   7/4/16
We begin to remove the dark soil in the SE corner of a rectangular area exposed by 284. This context consists of the irregularly shaped path of dark soil covering the line of the cut of the dark soil into the rockier red soil. There is no overtly modern material in this small deposit (e.g. metal cans). This removal exposes the line of the cut through the red soil, which is curved rather than squared in this corner. This material/matrix is most likely the same material as that which will be excavated from inside the cut (298), given its color and inclusions.
