Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes: | Soil is looser than 79 and the surface to the north. This context was opened to clarify the cuts running E-W beneath context 79 in the southern section. The cuts represent the construction of a drainage channel that also runs N-S along the extant N-S wall. 85 cuts into a soil surface to the N and a different soil surface to the S. The soil surface to the South is composed of light brownish brown compacted clayey soil with small carbon and possible limestone chunk inclusions. The soil to the north is also compacted, but lighter in color and with fewer carbon inclusions. Very little material is being found in the excavation of this small swath of soil. The cut is clearly observed with a sharp boundary to the north and along the eastern 3/4 of the southern edge. Towards the west, the soil is clayier. This creates a more diffuse boundary for the cut. The context was closed in order to prioritize the excavation of the N-S drainage channel. Statumen layer has fallen into this channel and it must be removed before the E-W channel to avoid contamination.
