Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the N. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This is a fill level in the section of the apse being excavated to find the concrete subfloor that has been observed in Structure 1029. The soil for this level is a bit siltier and darker than the overlying fill context 1035. The context sloped to the north moderately, possibly artificially as the north part of this area was dug to a lower level than the south in the 1990 field season. The level was taken down about 10cm on the south side and ca. 0-5 cm on the north side in the first pass. There are more and larger tile fragments in this context than th eoverlying 1035 fill. The second pass was about 10 cm throughout. A fair amount of the tile came from this pass. As we started the third pass, we noted that there appeared to be less tiles, but still some cobbles coming out. The soil is still the soft sandy silt. We are appraoching a similar elevation that as that of the bottom of 1033 and the top of 1029 (ca. 85.09). After the third pass, we decided to change contexts so as to better record any canges there might be within the deposit.
