Description:   Plate with shallow straight flaring walls, rising at 20 degrees, turning up sharply to low vertical rim, inward and outward thickened flat lip. Similar to C-1938-196.
Decoration:   White slip inside and over rim. Interior: all over checkerboard design, set at angle to rim, with open squares filled with dots, others solid. Bars on rim. No glaze.
Material:   Moderately fine orange clay with sandy gray inclusions and rare voids.
Munsell Color:   5YR 7/6 (reddish yellow)
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving small part of wall, rim, and lip.
Period:   Late Byzantine (1059-1210 AD)
