The decoration is of two types: barbotine slip, and applique elements attached wholly or only in part to the body of the vessel. The slip is a white clay over which the glaze assumes a light green color constrasting with the darker green tones over the basic clay of the vase. Of the applique decoration large portions stand out in the round, free from the body (some of the tendrils, the vine leaves and bunches of grapes, the fillets and the rosette.
Photographed Before Painting Of Plaster.

The two complexes meet at front (opposite handle), where they are joined by an 8-petalled rosette at base of wall. The leaves and tendrils of ivy and the tendrils of olive are executed in slip; the tendrils, leaves and fruit of the grape and the fruit of the olive are applique. Below rim, on front of vase, two birds facing (executed in slip); below them (and just above the rosette), five olives (applique); to right and left of the pair of birds, floral patterns (slip) resembling fleur-de-lys. A fillet hangs from upper extremity of handle on either side. Below handle, a rudimentary palmette; upside down (slip).
