Title:   EM/MN RED ON WHITE ASKOID: RIM
Category Code:   C
Year:   1976
Object Number:   347
Description:   Asymmetrical rim fragment probably from large askoid vesel in red-on-white painted ware. From a slight spreading along diagonal lower broken edge apparently marking junction with shoulder, fragment rises irregularly in slight outward slant to uneven simple taper-rounded rim. Fabric resembles that of local EN spongy ware. N.B. major inclusions seem to be calcite in discrete crystals.
Decoration:   Outside, over rim, and inside more thinly, especially toward bottom, coated with slightly pinkish paint. Outside, most of one and part of a second of apparently a band of orangey red solid large triangles, apices up, polished, seemingly following line of rim.
Material:   Semi-fine fabric, many stoney white inclusions perhaps of 2 different kinds and other dark inclusions, lightly micaceous; fired very dark gray at core going to bright orange surface layers.
Condition:   Fragment. Mended from 2 joining sherds, broken all around, except at rim.
