Title:   BRONEER TYPE XXVII INSCRIBED LAMP

Description:   Broneer type XXVII lamp with flat base, echinoid body, wide rim, deep straight-sided disk with a fill hole, small slit-like air hole at base of nozzle, vertical lug handle, pierced. As CL 190 (Corinth IV.2, p. 188, no. 556, pl. XI).
Decoration:   Stamped concentric circle at center of base above inscription, base marked off from body with groove, stamped concentric circles on either side of base of handle, ovule pattern around rim, with concentric circles stamped on either side of base of nozzle which is marked off from rim by grooves and raised slightly from the plane of the rim; disk has raised, flat framing ring set off by grooves and rays to level of fill hole, two framing rings around fill hole, back of handle plain. As CL 190 (Corinth IV.2, p. 188, no. 556, pl. XI), L-69-408 (Corinth XVIII.2, p. 28, no. 19, pl. 2).
Writing:   inscribed. Inscribed on base, Greek: CEKOYND EYN , similar to CL 324 (Corinth IV.2, p. 210, no. 762).
Material:   Very fine very pale brown clay with rare small sparkling inclusions.
Munsell Color:   10YR 7/3 (very pale brown)
Condition:   Complete profile. Three joining fragments, complete except for 1/4 of shoulder, almost all of nozzle with body underneath it, 1/2 of handle. Clay globules in ovules show the use of a plaster mold. Traces of burning throughout.
