Description: | Mouldmade terracotta rattle of razorback hog or boar standing on low, rectangular base or plinth. Muzzle long and rounded with slight indications of nostrils added after removal from mould. Eyes large and uneven: proper left eye is oval in shape; proper right eye appears incised after removal from mould and is roughly square. Ears large, pressed against head. Hair in high ridge along back, beginning at head; hairs incised only on proper right toward back. Body large, legs short. Rectangular plinth hollowed at bottom, with hole (D00.010m) pierced through center of bottom. Underside of base or plinth roughly finished with smears of wet clay. Pebble or clay pellet inside (functioning rattle) produces loud sound of medium pitch. | |
