Description: | Hollow crown with two registers; lower register framed below and above by raised ridge, upper register recessed, punctuated by rectangular crenellations at regular intervals; crenellations raised from background, tilted forward, with serrated upper edge on top of raised ridge; in center of front V-shaped gate (?). | |
Decoration: | Exterior face white-slipped overall. Thin gold foil covers lower register of crown, crenellations and gate. Blue paint on upper register in spaces recessed between raised crenellations, red paint on upper edge of those spaces and on side of gate. Interior roughly smoothed. Crown reminiscent of crowns on marble heads as S 1540, even though not a mural crown; for terracotta headdresses, not similar however, see MF 1970 162, MF 10956 (Corinth XVIII.4, pp. 278-279, nos. V16-V17, pl. 62). | |
