Description:   Oval gemstone with flat front and back, bevelled edges so face larger than back. See MF-1983-40 for stone, shape, and cut.
Decoration:   In intaglio. Man standing contraposto, facing lt., groundline, nude with cloak (chlamys) over his shoulders and back, wearing a pileus(?), with a faintly incised cross over head, holding spear in his rt. hand and controling horse with his lt. Horse standing facing lt., with raised front hoof. See LIMC, vol. III, p. 618, plate 495, esp. cat. 63-64, similar representation on lamps, gems, and coins.

Material:   Carnelian
Condition:   Complete or intact. Intact. Very well preserved, with no chips missing, only one small crack in back.
