Description:   Terracotta mask or plaque. Possible right temple of flat terracotta theater mask, with curving parallel grooves as hair or other linear border decoration and thickened, protruding brow ridge (similar to MF-1392, MF-1984-40). Two other protrusions of triangular shape (vegetation and/horn?), as J. Dwyer notes to possibly represent satyr or Pan. Similar with possible horn and shallow grooves as hair to MF-1983-63. Moldmade front. Also, similar to plaque MF-1970-186.
Decoration:   Round drop of yellowish glaze (from lead or calcium carbonate) on back, probably result of flux in production process, rather than decoration.
Mythology:   Pan or satyr
Material:   Light reddish brown clay with frequent medium, spherical, angular white and gray inclusions, and tabular, angular voids. Granular breaks.
Munsell Color:   Surface: 5YR 6/4 (light reddish brown); Core: 2.5YR 6/4 (red) to 2.5YR 6/6 (light red)
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving flattened (cut?) finished edge, broken on two sides. Irregularly smoothed back, with voids.
