Title:   TERRACOTTA FIGURINE: CLOAKED BOY

Description:   Hollow mouldmade running figurine poss. a soldier; folds of chlamys drape down from waist in V-shaped folds in front above knee. Lt. leg is slightly bent forward, round kneecap, well-defined musculature, thick ankle, long toes. A strap for a sandal wraps across the ankle with a round protusion in the center. Figure leaning forward on the balls of the foot giving a sense of movement. Sandal similar to KT25-29.1 and body similar to Cloaked Boy Type I (Hesperia XLIII, p. 212-217, 240 no. 87 pl. 37).
Decoration:   White slip covers the drapery. Red paint on drapery, pink paint on exposed leg and brown paint for sandal on the bottom of foot.
Material:   Fine pink clay with few small platy angular black, rare small platy angular mudstone, few fine tabular rounded white, and few fine sparkling inclusions
Munsell Color:   Clay: 7.5YR 8/4 (pink), Paint: 10R 5/6 (red), 2.5YR 8/4 (pink), and 7.5YR 3/2 (dark brown)
Condition:   Fragment. Four joining pieces preserving part of drapery, all of lt. leg and part of lt. foot. White slip and paint preserved throughought piece. Surface has large chipped areas.

Chronology:   c. 300-250 B.C. stylistically (Hesperia XLIII no. 87) or 220-178 B.C. based on coin of Philip V in well IV.
