Collection: | | Corinth | Type: | | Object | Name: | | Z 523 | Title: | | 4-LEGGED STAND | Category: | | Miscellaneous | Category Code: | | Z | Object Number: | | 523 | Description: | | Stand for cooking pot. The stand is hollow with a doubly curved profile and a flat rim sloping inward. It has no bottom; the sides are cut out so that they form three broad legs; they are somewhat misshapen as a result of accidents in firing, and their curve does not form a perfect circle. The stand looks as if it were intended to support a small cooking pot over a charcoal fire, for which the openings in the side would provide sufficient air. But the excellence of fabric is in contrast with the rather coarse finish of the cooking vessels themselves. | Decoration: | | The decoration is simple consisting merely of horizontal bands and a brush-line around the three arched openings in the side, all done in excellent red glaze-paint. | Material: | | Pinkish buff clay, red paint | Condition: | | Complete or intact. Pieces of legs missing and chip off rim | Dimensions Actual: | | H: 0.15; D at top: 0.153; D at bottom: 0.20 | Weight Description: | | 0.740 (without plaster) | Weight: | | 0.740 | Period: | | Late Helladic III | Findspot Description: | | Room 30, Potter's Shop, Zygouries | Bibliography: | | Zygouries page 149; fig 138, page 148 | Site: | | Corinth | City: | | Ancient Corinth | Country: | | Greece | References: | | Publication: Blegen, Zygouries: a prehistoric settlement ... 1928
