"Mycenaean Small Chamber tomb.; The cist measures 1,90m E to W, 0.75-0.90m N to S, max. depth -1.30m. Nothing was found in it; cleaned in modern times and used as a cesspool. Some of the SW part of it had also been cut away in Roman times by a terracotta drain. All that remains of the chamber is a small segment with a maximum preserved dimension of 1.20m, which is bordered on the north by a modern wall and on the east by a cesspool. The cutting is not straight either in vertical or horizontal section, which shows that the chamber was circular in plan and probably roughly semi-circular in section. The chamber is hewn out of the soft clayey bedrock of the hill and its sides are not walled. Its diameter may be estimated at about three meters, its height at about two. It must have been from the north as the hill slopes downward in this direction, but everything was cut away in modern times if not earlier. A terracotta Roman drain cuts across the chamber from SE to NW and its bottom is slightly below the floor of the chamber.; The objects were found lying on or just above the floor of the chamber, close to the wall. They were broken and lying in disorder and pieces of bone, badly decomposed, were mixed in with them. There was also a number of small stones at one point.","","May 1939","Myc. "Mended from many pieces; part of lip of spout; one-half of handle, chips from knob at its top, and small fragments of wall missing. Low raised base, slightly concave beneath, plump round body; vertical spout with flaring lip, on shoulder. On the top, an angular basket handle with central strut and round flat-topped center. Decoration in red glaze: zones of broad and narrow bands on body and shoulder to line of spout attachment; above, five groups of hand-drawn concentric quarter-circles. Around spout, glaze band around top and reserved bottom. "Pyxis mended from many pieces; about two-thirds of rim and wall, and part of the floor, missing; two non-joining fragments of the lid remain. Low round-bodied pyxis on low ring foot; flange for lid inset below top of wall; flat lid. On the bottom of the bowl a swastika, the outer arms curved; rosettes in the spaces between the arms, and narrow glazed bands around. On the wall, three zones of decoration separated by bands; from bottom: tooth pattern, broad band of simple hatched maeander, broken into panels set off by groups of verticals; the one panel preserved contains a hatched swastika and a vertical band of chrevrons. Flange glazed, with a reserved line. Interior glazed save for a reserved circle at the center of the floor, decorated with glazed bands around a cross, the spaces between its arms filled by diminishing V's. ; ; On the lid, short diagonals around the edge; then, separated by groups of bands, a ring of dots, a zone of zigzags, another ring of dots, and another zigzag. "Mended from many pieces; the lid complete except for a chip from the knob, the tip of the handle, and small chips; the bowl complete save for a few small bits of wall and rim, and chips to the surface. Deep round-bodied pyxis on low ring foot; horizontal flange inset below top of wall to receive lid. Flat lid with tall central handle, composed of a high stem, a large roundish knob, and a small tip. Two string holes in rim and flange, on either side. ; ; Underside of lid and inside of pyxis unglazed. On the bottom of the pyxis, a twelve-petalled rosette with hatched leaves, surrounded by four glazed circles. On the wall, four zones of decoration, separated by groups of three or four glazed bands; from bottom: tooth pattern, alternating pendent verticals, simple continuous maeander, zigzag. Two bands on top of flange. ; ; Around the outer part of the lid, a zone of tooth pattern, then a zone of dots with groups of bands between; center of lid glazed solid; on the handle, bands around lower part of stem, bands and a zone of chevrons on the knob, and bands on the tip. ; ; Clay buff to pinkish, with a few red bits; smooth light buff surface, more prominent on pyxis than on lid.
