Although there is no direct join, the character of the marble and the effects of weathering upon it, any less than the pose and character of the head, make the correspondence almost certain. The sketchy dressing of the top of the head strengthens the probability that the group was an akroterion; the all-over character of the weathering precludes a partly sheltered position.
