Title:   Room 7 - Clay Deposit over Structure 96
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   93
Date:   2016/06/10
Stratum:   Less than 5% potter; a couple of large tile fragments and medium sized stones; 5-10% large chunks of concentrated white clay; more small rocks further down.
Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the N. The soil color is light brownish white. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty clay.
Notes:   After cleaning Context 89, we then chose to excavate the deposit of heavily concentrated clay in the SE corner. There were a couple of large tile fragments (0.20 x 0.10x 0.02; 0.15 x 0.22 x 0.02) and a couple of medium sized stones toward the top, and more small rocks (e.g. ~ 0.09 x 0.06 x 0.02) toward the bottom. But there was very little pottery throughout and virtually no bone; and in terms of small finds, there was also precious little: a single pieces of glass and a coin (2016 - 173)--its clipped octagonal shape suggesting a date ~12th century (according to Guy). The soil became slightly more soft and brown at the bottom. We closed the context after coming down upon a hearth structuer (96).
