| Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greenish grey. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand. | |
| Notes: | 6497 was opened at a depth of 10.60 m with and artificial change. Wells went down to observe the soil, inclusions, and well sides and to take measurements. See notes on 6492 for details. The soil continues to come up much looser than it is in the well before it is excavated. This is perhaps because it is broken up as it is being dug out. So, the soil is compact in the well but loose in the buckets. It is stil very dark grey. There is not so much brown in the soil anymore--it seems to be almost all clay. Handfulls will stick together when squeezed. There is no change in the soil throughout this context. The depth at the end of the context is 11.05 m. We will no longer be using the 3 mm screen due to the moisture in the soil and the fact that it is taking a long time. We are still sampling every context for water flotation so the information will not be lost. To expedite the dry sieving process, at the end of the day, the remaining dirt was dumped out on plastic sheets to dry out. These will be sieved in the morning. Egg shell wt .8 Fish scale wt .01 | |
