Title:   Greenish clay pit (?) fill with tiles in 4RE
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1110
Context:   484
Date:   2016/04/20
Stratum:   Green clay lump inclusions; some charcoal; virtually no pottery
Description:   The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is well sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   We open this context to remove the somewhat circular patch of fill exposed in the central portion of Room 4 Rear East during the excavation of Context 426. It is unclear if this is filling a pit or other cut in the bedrock/stereo. There are two tile fragments lying horizontally atop the clayey patch, one with its edge aligned with the context boundary.
Although the fill appeared slightly greenish on top, it is essentially the same orangish-reddish-yellowish brown sandy fill as everywhere else. We expose the surface level of the bedrock/stereo relatively quickly but it does not appear to be cut; the context is apparently fill used to level a depression in the stereo.
