Context:   1034

Stratum:   fine rounded, subangular, spherical and tabular pebbles, medium rounded and subangular tabular pebbles, coarse subangular and angular, tabular pebbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This is fill between the threshold and the wall (1032) for Grave 2014-04. When Kostas excavated the top two visible courses, he commented that he felt the fill and the soil excavated with Wall 1032 were the same. The purpose of excvating this fill was to try to find the bottom of the threshold to the foundation level of the church. The context was stopped at the excavated level of the wall (1032) as ther ewre large rocks in the space between the threshold and Wall 1032 that could not be removed without removing wall 1032, which was not done because of a cranium against its east face in Grave 2014-04.
Coin 182 found in sieve.
Upon excavation, we found that the soil of the fill was looser than that from the wall 1032. This may be because there was more clay mixed in with the soil bonding the wall together.
Later note (2016/06/15)
Upon further consideration, a line of lime concrete remnant is visible ca. 28cm from the tiles in the trheshold. The line is ca. 6cm thick and could very well represent the same lime concrete subfloor represented by structure 1029 along south wall 929. Above and beneath the line are roughply worked stones. Those above (1st course) are overlaid by the tiles making up part of a threshold. There appear to be two courses of tiles, plus another less unifrom layer on top with mortar, likely used to support the threshold - possibly half a column or another rounded structure.
