Description:   The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Context is a section of fill in NW quadrant of church nave. The decision to section this fill was made in consultation with the director and field director in order to make progress in the excavation area while work along the W wall was still underway. Work proceeded from the NE with a small pick by Thanasis at a depth of 5-8 cm, and two passes were made in the area S of the NW pier base. The upper levels of this area were characterized by a high frequency of cement inclusions and pieces of chipped marble. Some architectural frags, including from a cosmati floor, were collected from this area. The context was closed when a soil change was detected to a reddish soil to the N.
Late notes: Removal of fill 105 revealed part of another cut, potentially for a grave pit, to the SW. Another potential cut was revealed by the heavy rain at the end of the season. These cuts run under the as yet unexcavated baulk W of 105 created by sectioning of the excavation area to dig this context.
