Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   151
Date:   2014/04/23
Stratum:   Inclusions: pebbles (subrounded, 2%), ceramics (2%)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the W. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Context 151 was an area adjacent to and N of the interior "face" of Wall 16 NB 845 (now Context 156) in Room 8 of Unit II. It runs in a narrow strip (ca. 20-30cm) along the wall, though the wall itself is robbed out down to a lower elevation. It is bordered to the N by the white, clayey surface revealed in Context 140, and tapers at the E where upper levels of the wall and the white clayey floor are preserved. For this reason, this context was initially interpreted as a possible fill of a robbing trench associated with the removal of the upper courses of Wall 16 (Context 156) and cutting through the white clayey surface. However, no clear cut was revealed, and an underlying level (uneven) of hard, red, pebble-rich soil was discovered, similar to and probably the same as that found in Context 150. We therefore think that this context may represent untrodden soil adjacent to the wall, possibly covered by a built (perishable) bench or similar item. We closed the context when the harder, red soil was revealed across its length. An iron knife and coin were recovered from the sieve.
