Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 266
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 266
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Clayey fill on surface, Room 7
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   266
Date:   2014/05/13
Stratum:   30-40% inclusions, including stone, tiles, bone.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   After overdigging 263, it was noticed that a further clayey fill (266) was on the surface of the southern side of the room. It appears to be similar to 254 (and 260), that was throughout the south of the room. This deposit will be traced to try to remove it, exposing the deposit fill beneath (which the end of 266 was cutting into). On many parts of this surface, the deposit seemed to come up easily with the pick. 266 came up easily during excavation, indicating what we believe to be a trash pit (dumping site) immediately below). This is the deposit that we began to see with the overdigging of 266
On the west edge of the context, a harder deposit was left, which runs N-S, intersecting on the southern edge a line of stones and harder deposit (perhaps a wall), which runs E-W. Could these harder deposits later reveal the wall surfaces of an earlier room below Room 7?
At 12.21, it was noticed that the total station was off-level. All elevations should be accurate.
