Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 389
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Trampled fill, W end of Corridor
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   389
Date:   2014/05/23
Stratum:   About 40% inclusions (cobbles, platy cobbles, rough pebbles, animal bone, ceramic)
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   As mentioned elsewhere pertaining to the corridor space, we have been tracing layers of trampled fill deposited at various points along the length of the room, the relationships of which have been rather unclear. In the E end of the space, and in a small patch in the center, pebbly packed surfaces (as yet unexcavated) have come up. In the W half, the surface appeared to be a hard-packed lens of trampled fill.
We began taking it back, moving W to E, in an effort to elucidate the relationship between this fill and the pebbly surfaces to the E. As we began to excavate, the surface came up as a loose, silty lens filled with chunky, pebbly inclusions, bottoming out onto a much more firmly packed surface studded with pebbles, cobbles, and flay-lying tiles. As we move E, the flat surface seems to disappear. We closed the basket when we encountered a fill that appears softer and darker than the presetn one. 389 seems to end, on the E, along a roughly horizontal line, which is roughly on alignment with wall 157.
