Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 427

Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 427
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Two stones north of Pit NB 850
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   427
Date:   2014/06/03
Stratum:   10% medium sub-rounded pebbles, ceramic sherds, bone, and the 2 stones (this is a small amount of dirt underlaying the boulders)
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light greyish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We decided to remove the two stones north of pit NB 850 B22 because the layer beneath these stones appeared to exhibit inclusions of a type and percentage similar to that of the area E and S of Pit NB 850 (context 437), bonded by a spur wall (Context 436) and the N-S trench (cut 403). The soil that we removed during the stones' removal was fairly clean. There appears to be a less inclusion-filled area just E of the context. Determining the relationship of this area to the current context and bordering areas will require further excavation. The purpose of these stones is still unclear and undetermined.
