Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   454
Date:   2014/06/05
Stratum:   25% snail shells, plant detritus, small pebbles (mixed types): primarily organic material
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This is the fill of the child's grave immediately underlying the tile capping 449. Happily, a coin was found immediately on to pof the fill. This layer was heavily disturbed by animals and plants - a number of snail shells, dried plant tendrils and bug corpses were seen laying at the top of the context (the tiles also preserved an air pocket between the top of the context 454 and bottom of t the tiles). When we began to dig this context we expected that it would include this burial's skeleton and extend to the bottom of the grave cutting. We switched contexts when we encountered a change in soil composition that revealed a lower undisturbed level of grave fill. Cf. excavation notes for Deposit Context 459.
A coin (2014-208) was found at the top of the fill : E 123.86, N 1076.10, H 84.57
