Title:   Cut for robbing trench of wall 558, E portion
Notebook:   1108
Context:   554
Date:   2014/06/17
Description:   The context shape in plan is irregular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are mixed. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is tapered blunt point. Truncation: Cut by pit at NE corner..
Notes:   This is the robbing trench for the E portion of wall 558, the S wall of Unit 2, Room 2. It has been truncated by a pit at its NE corner. This robbing trench was previously excavated, but it was underdug and we discovered as much when excavating this area.
The shape of the robbing trench is irregular, as it resembles a trapezoid, with the short side oriented N.
The 'robbers' were very effective: wall 558 is gone completely where they sunk this trench.
We are continuing to excavate the large pit at the center of this room, while also cleaning up the room's walls and robbing trenches. The robbing trench was dug in 1992 (NB 847 B 24 and 25, pp. 59-62) and have been dated to the 16th century.. From NB 847, it appears that wall 559 was the first robbing activity (B 19) and was also dated to the 16th century. Shortly thereafter E-W wall 558 was robbed out (pp. 49-52).
